CARTROPHEN VET® (pentosan polysulfate) is a new treatment for osteoarthritis, that provides pain relief by acting on the pathology within the joint that causes the pain. It also protects and supports the recovery of joint cartilage that is damaged by the arthritic process. CARTROPHEN VET has therefore been classified as a disease modifying anti-osteoarthritic drug and represents a new and rational approach to the medical treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs. Dr Budsberg of the University of Georgia has published findings on the efficacy of CARTROPHEN VET for improving the recovery period and mitigating the progression of osteoarthritis of the canine stifle after extracapsular stabilization of cranial cruciate ligament injuries. A link to this publication is provided below. It was concluded that pentosan polysulfate administered after stablization of the cruciate stifle may prove to be a useful adjunctive treatment option. EQUINE CARTROPHEN EQUINE FORTE (250mg/mL pentosan polysulfate) is registered in New Zealand as an aid in the treatment of non infectious inflammatory joint disease in horses. Please
